I hate working at my job. What are some tips on getting through the day with as little pain as possible? What makes work go by quick?

Depends if its a mental or psychical job really :P

Are you willing to be fun/silly?

This made me laugh, the top answer.

Otherwise:
Do not keep looking at the clock. Time will go slower :P
Teach yourself some little tricks; flipping a coin or ring in your fingers, teaching yourself to cry on the spot or even try to wiggle your ears, bend your tongue into a tube/roll or try not to blink for a long time.

Count in your head and see what number you can get to. Don't go ridiculously fast but don't lose momentum either.
Take a crossword puzzle with you.
Print off 100 riddles on paper and try and make them last the whole day. Spend time to work out each one.

Count things. Set yourself a target; how many red things can I see today?

This all depends what type of job you do. If you're on a shop floor, some of these would be okay as long as you're not ignoring customers :P

I just talk to the person next to me, I work in a Petrol Station, so I tend to move around, put some stock out and just some general tidying up.
If I'm just sitting at the till, I just feel like the time is going slow.

I'm gonna go with... man up. Very few people have jobs they truly enjoy, but your work will drag on and on if you half-**** what you're doing. Take pride in your work even if you hate it. If you're working retail, dealing with the public etc. don't just slump there like a sulky teen whose mommy took their Xbox away. Smile, chat to customers, brighten their day and in turn your work will go by a lot quicker. If you find yourself at a loose end, make work for yourself. No customers around? Tidy up the shelves, do a little cleaning etc.

I hated my job, but I love money. Eventually by following these rules I started to enjoy my job, and I made a lot of friends by doing so. Usually, if your job sucks, it's because you're a sucky person.

I try and split the day into small sections, and figure out how much money I've earned every 10 minutes or whatever.

I, too, work in retail and I find that throwing yourself into your job, like Rebecca said, is the best way to make your day go by fast! If you actually spend more time on your work and less time worrying about what time it is, that helps. It really does!

I know what that feels like. If you keep looking at the clock, it will go by slower and the day will seem like it is dragging. Like everyone else mentioned, find something to occupy your mind or find something to do.

When you have been dreading work all day, ease the pain by promising yourself a treat right after. That might even make you look forward to getting the work done. Knowing I have something fun to look forward to gets me motivated. Schedule in little rewards after those to-do nightmares, and you won't be putting them off all day.

A change of perspective can also do a lot.Instead of thinking "I have to do this," think "I choose to do this." It will completely realign how you prioritize. You're owning the task, and in a way, you're excited to jump into it because you know it'll better you or help you progress.

Give yourself breathers. Knowing you have a full eight hours of work ahead of you could make you want to slide straight into your pajamas again and never get the day started. But what if you knew you had a break every 30 minutes to do whatever fun thing you wanted? That makes the whole thing just a little more bearable, doesn't it? So do exactly that - download an app that will keep time for you and let you know when you can tap out to go buy a coffee or whatever.

I only accept jobs that I love doing.

But when you have a job you don't like, if you want my opinion , I will say RESIGN.

You cant be productive in a place u don't like

See if you can help out someone else on your shift if you have downtime, because it'll help out your company and distract you from looking at the clock. If you really hate your job, start looking for a new one in the career field you're interested in but keep the job you have currently so you have some form of income coming in.
