McDonald’s staff ‘fat-shamed’ a 16-year-old girl when she ordered six cheeseburgers, it has been claimed.

Sabrina Hopkinson decided to let her four kids have fast food as a treat over the Christmas holidays and sent her daughter Corrina to pick up the meal for everyone with her brother Jack, aged 10.

But she claims that when Corrina put in the order at the restaurant in Shoreham, Sussex, staff behind the counter started laughing at her.
According to the teenager, when she asked for the meals a girl shouted to the kitchen: ‘Six cheeseburgers. I’m not joking this time. This fat woman wants six burgers’.

Corrina, who is overweight, said she was left in tears by the insult and tried to defend herself, saying ‘They’re not just for me. They’re for my brother and sisters’.

However, McDonald’s ‘categorically denied’ any such incident took place.

In the family’s account, staff who were just standing around started laughing at Corrina.

37-year-old Sabrina, herself a former McDonald’s worker, said she didn’t think six burgers and four fries for four people was over the top.

This is just sad, I mean I very much dislike McDonalds to begin with but I mean come on society. I can't say I am surprised this happened but to have the nerve to actually make fun of this girl because she was ordering food for her family? I hope it wasn't the manager or that there was a manager there...

Where's the evidence that this happened? I agree with McDonald's. I highly doubt this is real. Sounds like another idiot trying to get 15 seconds of fame.

Oh I remember this, well lets be honest. If you and your family (I'm guessing) are unhealthy, the last place you should be is at a McDonald's. I don't care what the reason is, if they had money to spend it should have been at the gym.

This really isn't over the top at all in terms of amount. My father and I have done this and never had an issue- though we also don't really go to McDonald's for other health reasons besides the fact we have weight issues [their food is horrid for his allergies].

Whether you believe they shouldn't be there or not, or you feel their order is too much, it's not really proper to lash out like that- and I'm only using those terms because I can't really think of the best wording. In the service industry especially, you shouldn't be purposely making statements that are biased or discriminatory, however true they may be in the situation. You don't know the entire situation of someone's life- someone obese can still have unique health requirements that this place could fulfill. Or, like was the case, they could be buying for a family with many people. Just shouting out something so derogatory in a public place isn't right even when you don't work there- let alone /when you do/. That's also just bad business.

If it's helping your business that they're buying stuff, you shouldn't be rude about your opinion. If you're going to point it out, do it quietly to them only and ask them why they need so much in the first place or learn about their situation. That's my personal opinion, but it seems the much more polite thing to do.
