Mom called me this morning that she couldn't wake sis up. She was breathing, but unresponsive. I told her to call 911. The EMTs were able to rouse her, but she was in tachycardia & confused, her oxygen had fallen to dangerous levels. She's in the hospital ED now, awake, on oxygen, being treated.

I want to be there, for her & mom, but sis wants me to stay up here w/dad. He isn't up to the long trip down to the Cape. At least mom's own sis is there with them & my bro will be there as soon as his backup doc shows up to take over his own shift at his ED.

I spent over an hour desperately trying to get sis' medical info for the ED staff because she was too out of it to tell them herself.

For G-d's sake, please make sure family members have access to your vital medical info like your primary doc's name & number, what allergies to meds you may have, and what meds you are taking, etc.

My sis' paranoia made finding that info difficult & time consuming, please don't be as stupid & foolish as she is, it could cost your life or health.

Please keep a written list, preferably on the fridge. It is where EMTs are trained to look if you aren't responsive.

Now all I can do is pray, try not to worry, and call the ED. [Mom's cell is about to run out of battery, again. Remember to keep those charged].

I'm so sorry, Ennui. :huggy:

This has been such an ordeal for you, but I am so glad you keep us in the loop. The info you are drilling into us is valuable info. It wouldn't occur to me to have such a list for me or my family, but you're right...it is almost impossible info to find out in an emergency.

Several years ago my dad went off the deep end & was a missing person for awhile. Kind of hard to locate someone when you can't give the police their license plate info immediately. That taught me a lesson, but I never thought of the medical part.

Very good advice. I can't count the number of times we've scrambled to locate medical info for my MIL from afar. She can't be relied on to remember such information or to carry an updated list.

In a holding pattern ATM, the hospital on the Cape is trying to transfer her back to Boston because they think something may be going on, but they don't know the cause.

Spoke to sis, she's all hooked up, being monitored and to her dismay was catheterized instead of being allowed to use the bathroom.

If they do transfer her, I will meet mom & take her into Boston after sis' ambulance departs.

Thank you for the prayers & hugs, it is very much appreciated.
