Ok, so... we received a phone call from paypal almost a week ago.
They told my husband they thought there was suspicious activity.
My husband looked over the accounts, changed some passwords ect.
Then we received 2 one ring phone calls 3?? days ago.
Yesterday, I received a giftcard for 50.00 from amazon.com We never use amazon
so this is not from us.

So long story short... they have hacked us... we are receiving giftcards from
amazon. When the 2 one ring phone call at 5:45 am, it was this person
hacking into Vonage and having our phone forward to their home number.
I called home 2 nights ago and it rang once, then a long ring and someone
answered but noone from my home. I was on my cell and I looked at the number
and it said calling home. I did not recognize the voice so I asked who is this.
The person (guy) said Adrienne. I said hmmm ok,I have the wrong number anbd hung up.
My husband called me back and I asked who is adrienne and why is he answering our phone?
My husband thought I was losing my mind that the phone only rang once and he wondered
why I hung up so he called me right back.

Tonight my husband realized the calls are being forwarded to this person in Georgia.

Do we go to the cops or what is the protocol here?

Anyone?

We are unsure just how much damage may have been done. Everyday new **** is coming to light.

Absolutely Call the Police! NOW! even if it is not, (which it totally sounds like it to me) they will investigate.

When my DH had some ID theft issues going on, the police directed him to a branch of the secret service & they handled it from there. I would absolutely call the police & ask them for guidance. Can you disconnect your Vonnage #? Or call Vonnage & have them block the forwarding feature?

Oh wow, that's awful. Praying everything works out all right. Hacking into your phone like that is freaky. =(

I don't know how some people get your information. A couple weeks ago I got a call from Capital One saying there was suspicious activity on my card. I didn't answer the 800#, heard the message, thought to myself, how do I know this number is even capital one? Logged into my account and saw the note there, called that number and yep, someone had charged almost $800 worth of stuff plus an e-commerce charge that I never heard the amount of on my card. I don't get paper bills, my card is in my wallet, I hadn't used it since Nov. HOW do they get your number? Now it's in their fraud dept. and I'm not getting charged for those charges, some had posted but they removed them.

We had this happen on my husbands account--they said there are account readers that can read through your wallet. That is why the aluminum wallets are so popular---they tell everyone to put their credit cards in the aluminum wallets--because they can't read through those. I guess they say they can just bump your purse or wallet--and read the numbers.
They also said that if someone right after you can get your number-not sure how that works--but ours was we were at Menards--and somehow they got his number and tried to charge 3,000 worth of stuff. My credit card company red flagged it when they charged cruise tickets--knowing we have NEVER had any travel items on our cards (since we can't afford vacations!!) I was thrilled that our credit card company caught it. Thankfully, that was all-

GOOD luck--had never heard of them going through Vonage.

Eek! Crazy! So I should walk around hugging my purse in front of me and watching everyone suspiciously. =) Seriously though, that's insane. I too am thankful Capital One instantly flagged it and have been very helpful with all of it.

I'm sorry this happened to you. My Discover Card was just compromised yesterday. I use it all the time, only get e-statements, and it never leaves my wallet either. Someone got a hold of the number, charged 1.00 on it to "test out" the card and then bought a baby monitor for 200.00 off Tiger Direct with it. I'm so glad Tiger Direct called me to confirm the order because I had just paid the bill and probably wouldn't have logged on for another month to pay the next bill so at least this way they caught it early.

A similar thing happened to DH. They got his card and charged 1.00 on it at some random store and then took his card to Best Buy and charged over 3K of electronics on it.

It's a shame how smart the criminals are these days. If they only used their smarts for good and not evil, think how much they could actually accomplish.

Hope you get it resolved asap!
