I am a hair dunce through and through.

My 11 year old just recently got her hair cut very short and the stylist recommended using hair wax. Any suggestions on:
1. Do I bother with this expense? For an 11-year-old?
2. Do I get wax, gel, mousse, or paste, or anything else?
3. Any particular brands you would recommend?

I'm the kind who doesn't use much product at all (other than a leave-in conditioner), so I'm at a complete loss here.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hair wax is not expensive. It just helps stick the hairs where you want them since short hair can stick up in odd ways. I have a boy and have used it on his hair to control stick ups in the back.

What do you consider "not expensive?" The salon was suggesting (of course) I purchase the product there but it was a small bottle for a ridiculous amount of money (can't remember specifics riight now). I checked Target today (using up the last of my Revlon tools Q's) and it seemed pricey to me there, too. Should I be looking for any brand in particular? Should I be shopping anywhere in particular?

Thanks much!

I use hair wax. I get mine from Sally Beauty Supply. When I first started using it, the stylist suggested Bed Head which is pretty pricey. So I went to Sally and asked what they had like it and they showed me some that is their brand - Beyond the Zone.

I have the stick. It's called Stiff Head. It's like a deodorant stick, but round and when my hair is dry, I just rub it along my scalp and at the roots.

I don't remember how much it cost, maybe $9? It lasts me a long time, like 6 weeks. I don't use a ton of it, maybe that's why.

I forgot to ask why the wax. I use mine to stick up my hair.

The Target stuff didn't work on my hair. I'm also a hair product junkie.

I bought some in the past for $3-4 at a drug store. That is the price range I was thinking and yes a little goes quite a long way!

I'm guessing wax was recommended because my daughter's hair is very thick and she's got natural wave to it. So I think the wax is to help put it in place without the wet gel look. When she left the salon, her hair looked amazing! But now with all the rain the past couple of days, it looks a bit frizzy and wild.

Looks like we'll have to give hair wax a whirl.

Thank you for the advice!

I love Paul mitchells dry wax. I usually get it on sale at ulta. I use it to help straighten my hair and for fly aways. Use very little!!!
