Have you ever migrated your forum to a new peice of software? Over the years running a forum can be tough and trying to innovate takes a lot of work. One thing people tend to try and go is to migrate their forum to a new software package as something new.

It can take a long time to make sure the migration works and is successful. It also means that members need to effectively learn how to use the forum all over again. Do you think migrating software is a good thing? If you have done this, why did you decide to make that change and how did it go for you?

It depends what you are moving too. For the most part, all the ones I have done have gone well. You will find some that are a pain and you want to pull your hair out. :)

You can probably migrate to any software you want as long as there is some kind of tool to use for it. I know lots of different forum softwares have tools that let you move things across. I'd always do a test first though to make sure it works. You wouldn't want to lose all your content.

I can't do any of that stuff. I'd have to pay someone. However, I am quite saavy with other web development stuff, aside from moving whole websites.
