Ok, so we're all at it now! lol This was written about 12 years ago, and it's to my dad.

I look back with fondness,
To that cloudy summer day.
When after years of indecision,
I sought you out.
Surrounded by family I never knew,
I came face to face with the past,
And found myself accepted.

I spent the day watching you,
And discovering myself.
Your humour, your nature,
You'd given it all to me.
And when we talked,
You tried to tell me why,
And I really tried to understand,
But questions still remain.

You said it broke your heart,
To leave me behind.
So why did you go?

As each birthday had passed,
Without even a card,
I couldn't help but wonder,
If you still cared.
Did you ever stop to think of me,
To wonder how I'd grown.
Did you ever stop to wonder,
What I had achieved?

And although these thoughts remained silent,
I believe that deep down you knew.
When you said that you were sorry,
If you'd done the wrong thing.

So it was on a summer day,
That I found you.
And on that day,
I thought I'd seen my future,
With only good times ahead.

But as the months passed with no contact,
And my birthday ignored once more.
My hopes and dreams seemed to disappear,
And in the depths of winter,
I realised you were gone.

There are so many things,
I will never understand.
Whether I made the right decision,
I shall never know.
When something you find,
Is taken away,
It seems better than not knowing it at all,
And somehow the pain seems deeper.

Yet when I look back,
At that cloudy summer day,
I have no regrets.
Just to know you for one day,
Was special to me.
That summer day.
Is all I have left of you.
And although you walk away,
I will never forget.

My experience in that poem might explain to some of you why I get so upset losing the friend I care about, and especially the fact that she doesn't respond to me.

Michelle we have the same problems LOL we don't know where our "POEM BOOKS are. If you find yours maybe mine is in the same place but at my house. :lmao:

That was wonderful! I haven't seen a poem written with such a clear view of the feelings in a long time. :)

Oddly enough, I actually know where my poem book is. The only thing I don't know is where the digital copy of it is. LOL

I love that Michelle. I do know where my poetry book is but alas, I haven't written anything in years and what I did write is so amateur I doubt I'll ever share. You showed your true feelings so well in that poem Michelle, it's just awesome.

I haven't written anything in years either. All the stuff I'm posting is really old. I'd still love to see some of yours stuff if you're ever willing to share. :)

I agree with the sentiments above. That's some incredible writing and with so much feeling, the sadness, yet the gladness for one day. Thanks for sharing something that's probably so much a part of you.

Dave :D

Thank you all.. as I was only 18 when I met my day, the whole experience was very emotional, as you can imagine. Writing that poem helped me sort out how I was feeling, and was good for me.

On a positive note, although I know that the experience itself has become part of me, and affects my reactions even now, the way I feel about my dad is alot different now. It no longer hurts that he couldn't be bothered to keep in touch.. he's missing out on a daughter, and my beautiful family. I'm missing out on nothing. :D

Two souls collide
A bumpy ride
But one that was meant to be

Through smiles and tears
Sharing of fears
Enjoying the you and me

Then contact lost
Feeling the cost
Of allowing hearts to care

Feeling the pain
Again and again
Of a friendship no longer there

That is great, great writing Michelle. Keep em coming. I love to read poetry.
