"History" of Anandtech HD posted. "Elite" member makes threats.

Someone posted a "history" of the Anandtech Hot Deals forum. It makes an interesting read. Many so-called "elite" members were pointed out as hypocrites for participating in the same "scams" they reproached people for. One named Russ didn't like it, and threantened a lawsuit.

Those Elite Members still crack me up. Bunch of hypocrites.

Not sure what an 'Elite Member' is, but I've been a Senior Member for years. Anyway, I've been there a while....Anand's Hot Deals got annoying. Yes, there were a lot of hypocrites, but what annoyed me most was the "You can't post this here. Lock it, mod." crap. There's no need to be fanatical about it...

Anyway, I'm liking the AS Hot Deals forum better because there's less fanatical Nazi rules.

Lanik> I recognize your name from Anandtech. An Elite Member was basically a senior member who was "promoted" by the Mods. There were guidelines for selection as an Elite Member posted in the Forum Issues forum there a while back.
Basically, the criteria were along the lines that you be a longtime member, post useful posts, and not speak harshly about Anandtech or the Moderators there. Basically, it meant that if you sucked up to the Mods hard enough to get your nose brown, you *might* be chosen for Elite Member status.
Some representative members with Elite status: Russ, Harvey, NFS4, Red Dawn.
Not suprisingly, these very members, who rarely posted to Hot Deals there in the past few months, came out of the woodwork when the Mods cracked down on coupon posting. To a man, they were all hailing the Mods decision, and putting down anyone who disagreed with the decision to ban coupons.
