Has anyone tried to create a forum or blog theme?

What were some challenges? What was the final product? Is there anyone who has considered doing this? What might be obstacles?

I never use pre-made themes, I always prefer to either take the default and make it my own or go for something a little outlandish, but it's always mine, always custom. It's a challenge, there's so much to a theme these days, but the end result is always worth it, and you learn about the software quite a bit, too.
