Did anyone learn foreign languages at school? In the UK school system you usually have the option between French, German or sometimes when you're in your late teens, Spanish. I learnt French when I was at school and I really enjoyed it.

The only issue I had was that it was hard to keep practicing by speaking French as outside of a French class, no one would obviously want to speak it as it was easier to speak in English. This meant over time you remembered less and less to a point where I personally don't remember much now at all.

I would have liked to learn Spanish too but I stuck with French because I had studied it for so long. DId you study any languages at school?

I learnt German and French at school but only studied German to a level to get a qualification. I found learning languages difficult compared to the other subjects so I didn't enjoy it very much. I now find that I remember more French than German even though I didn't study it as long!

When I was at school I learned German which was fun, especially at the time as me and my friends would mess around speaking German even when not in German class.

We also used to swear in German too as a means of skirting around the no swearing rules because we always use to plead that we weren't swearing in English. It was a very entertaining class and I ending up doing quite well.

I learned English at school. English is a foreign language in my home country. However, apart from English, there was no choice of other foreign languages in school. If I was offered other foreign languages, I would definitely go for it.

I didn't really learn foreign languages in school, so to speak. I simply learned some grammar and phrases. The only way to learn is immersion, I think. Anyway, I took Spanish in high school and college.

Aside from my native language, English language is a foreign language as well, so it's part of what I learnt in school. But now, I have taken extra learning courses in French, Spanish and German language.

Learning English is key to understanding how to interact with majority of the countries that speak English too. You did the right thing by learning English since majority of the people around the globe speak English too.

Thank you. I decided to learn English because it is one of the languages that you can speak in some places and people will understand.

When I was in school as we call secondary school here in the UK, I was put in for learning German and that was all I learned through my 5 years in secondary school. Nowadays I have noticed that kids learn languages from as early as primary school as my kids all started to learn French from an early age in school.

I was never a huge fan of German at all and would have much preferred to learn French with me having a French family but once your chosen language was picked, you couldn't change it, so I was stuck with German regardless. I don't remember any of what I learned now though as I never needed to use it since leaving school.
