OK, so I keep meaning to put together an Emergency Kit and I haven't done it yet except for the stockpile of food I have. :hides:I know there's been some good tips discussed here on CW before but There was another article on it in the Trib today and it got me thinking again. So I'm curious, what do you guys keep in your emergency kit if anything? Where do you keep it? What do you keep it in? Do you have a seperate box if you had to evacuate quickly for some reason?

I know, such happy thoughts for a sunny Sunday :giggle1:

Things I'm thinking of are

cash (if I can keep from spending it this time)
lighters
can opener
crankable battery charger
thermal blanket
batteries
water
food (haven't decided what kind)

Not sure about the "quick leave" bag yet either but am thinking copies of important papers, phone numbers etc for starters.

:bee::bee::bee:

Portable propane stove.

There was one here when we got here!!! :cartwheel:

Portable battery operated cell phone charger.

Just ordered one from Coleman with those darn WT $10.00 GCs that I had no idea what to do with, from a couple of years ago, until I just read the back of the giftcard!!! :giggles: Good at Colemans.com!! :duh:

Flashlights are a must.

I don't keep a 'kit' as such, I've got supplies stashed here and there. I do keep flashlights stashed in each room, easily accessible like next to each computer, in the nightstand, etc because the power does get knocked out here easily in storms.

No 'go' bag either, I'm not in an area that gets flooded or likely to be evacuated for any reason.

It's expensive and a PIA to add meds and food that will expire and have to be rotated ......sigh. Also the initial investment in extras such as the charger, batteries, blankets etc. sucks but one power outage for a few days and I'd be paying triple for all of it gladly.

Thanks all!

If you have kids, keep a bag of stuff to amuse them if there's no power for their electronics...card games, coloring stuff, stickers, treats...
