Firstly, I must say they are NOTHING to do with me despite my name!!!
It seems our planet is being bombarded with cosmic particles called "strangelets" or "strange-quark nuggets". They represent quite a danger and have caused at least two recorded mysterious explosions, one in Turkey and a second in Australia in 1999. Scientists are now trying to keep a proper record of these events.
The particles are extremely dense pollen-sized fragments believed to weigh several tons and one theory is that they originated in the Big Bang. They may be linked with the dark matter which makes up 90% of our galaxy.
Scientists believe that at least one unexplained explosion each year on Earth iss caused by these strangelets.
I've believed for a long time that there are some kind of tiny material particles flying through the air. I distinctly heard a "ping" on the wall near my bed one night as though something travelling at very high speed had bounced off it - but there was absolutely nothing to see or find! I have very acute hearing for tiny sounds ... and I know I wasn't imagining it.
