Does anyone regularly play older games on newer hardware? A lot of discussion broke out about older games being playable on newer generation of consoles, particularly when the PS4 and Xbox One were released.
Do you think having games backwards compatible is important anymore or do you think that it's a feature that people have moved on from? I used to like being able to play old games on new hardware but now I'm not that bothered. I think nostaglia makes people remember things more fondly than they were really.
There's lots of old games I enjoyed playing but I don't mind not playing them anymore as times have changed in my opinion.
I absolutely think backwards compatibility needs to be integrated in new consoles. Old hardware will eventually cease to work, and every game needs to be preserved somehow. Right now we can't emulate the last gen consoles, and we probably won't be able to do so for years. We just recently were able to get PS3 emulation somewhat up and running, and the 360 still needs work done. In fact, I have yet to actually play a PS5 game on my PS5, I've been playing my PS4 games more than anything. Graphics don't make a game good, game play and story does. There's countless older games that still hold up well to me and many others.
Backwards compatibility is great because it means even if you get a new console you can still play all of your old games and not have to buy them again to be able to play them. I understand that it might be quite hard to add that into a new console or might take a lot of time but I think it benefits the customer (player) a lot and would help with deciding what to buy and when.
As long as it's for me, it's something that I'm very happy for. It makes games to have more value even with the new consoles coming out. Playstation consoles is very good at doing that.
I love that we have backward compatibility but I will admit that I wish there were more games moved over to backward compatibility. I feel like so many games have now been left behind and eventually, they will be forgotten. I only hope that one day we end up getting more backwards-compatible games.
