I live in Orlando where we have the Arena Football team, the Orlando Predators. I think that Arena football is exciting and fun to watch. However, our team is struggling to sell tickets. Why do you think Arena football cannot seem to compete with the NFL in fans and attendance?

The field is only 50 yards, the field goal is extremely narrow, and the out of bounds rules are kind of weird. Most of the football watchers grew up watching the NFL. Why would they switch to something that's lower quality?

I'd have to agree with this. NFL is better than arena football in almost or all aspects.

Yeah, the one time I watched it, I couldn't help but to compare it to NFL, which only lead to disappointment. I think to truly appreciate that, you would either have to grow up to both, or only to that.

I think the other big aspect of it is name recognition. I like being able to say, "Oh thats Andre Johnson that did that" and instead I could care less who is making a play in arena football. The idea is interesting, they just need more marketability and better players.

We have a team in Tampa that is pretty solid but I think that football is just so over saturated. Especially in Florida; you have some of the best HS teams in the country; then you have FSU, UF, and Miami...then you have the upcoming teams like USF that are close to being part of the big 4 instead of the big 3; then you have 3 NFL teams that are struggling to sell tickets too.

That's a good point Bare. I also agree that if you compare it to the NFL, you are left feeling disappointed. It's a shame that it hasn't caught on more though, because there are some really great players in the league.

It is basically a passing league. It is kind of fun to watch- high scoring every game. I could not watch it on a weekly basis like football. Football on Sundays is great.

It's nowhere near the skill level that the NFL is at. If there were players like Manning, Brady, Rodgers etc. then the AFL would be awesome. They don't have them, so Arena League is lame.

Well I always found arena football really fun to watch, but then again I could not name a single player from the league. The games are exciting but it is very badly marketed. I see no commercials for it and I doubt that many people are aware of it unless it is locally. It should be marketed better and it will surely get more tickets sales and views.

I'm assuming it's because that's where the unskilled, NFL rejects go. Also isn't the field like half the size of an NFL field?

Sadly, that's true. Places like Arena or the European football league are where players go when they are either not good enough for the NFL. Or, they were good but not so much anymore.

Firstly, Arena doesn't do good because of the 50 yards of play field instead of 100. Secondly, the game is too much of a shootout and not much defense is played

Compared to the NFL, it has no suspense

Arena football sounds pretty new to me! We don't have that here in Virginia, no one seems to be talking about it. It seems like something that would be pretty cool to try, though.

I enjoy watching Arena Football. I try to go to see the Milwaukee Mustangs at the Bradley Center here in Milwaukee. But due to money situation that I am in it is hard to go to see them like I would. I do feel if the talent is there people will come out to see them when possible.

Yes, I do realize that they play 50 yard field instead of 100 yards field like the NFL. But it is still fun and exciting to watch. I do enjoy it but like my last post don't have the funds to do it.

I have watched Arena Football few times and I agree that it's not a patch on NFL. The small play area, weird rules and lack of big names makes it a pretty boring sport and I don't think this is going to change in the near future. If they want to make it popular, they need a visionary who can make the game more exciting and popular among the masses.

I personally enjoy watching arena football more. The game is so much quicker and it keeps the fans on the edge of their seats. I just think that NFL dominates so much more because many people don't even know about Arena Football. Also, arena football is for all the people who can't make it to the NFL, so they are not stacked with stars.

I must confess I don't know what area football is. Could someone explain?

It is American football but played indoors; basically in a hockey or basketball sized field. It has turf and field goal posts just like outdoor football but has a few different rules and is more of an offensive league with high scores and lots of passing offense.

We have a team in Chicago and I do try to catch the games on TV whenever I can. The people here are quite receptive of the team but the league in general jut isn't a high profile league. It especially doesn't help matters now that a lot of the games air on the NFL Network instead of ESPN2 like in year's past. Most people I know here cancel their NFL Network subscriptions the week after the Super Bowl and order it at the start of the preseason.
