Does anyone know? This is the first time I've dropped my dog ever! Do you tip petsmart groomers and if so how much? My dog weighs about 55 pds. TIA for any advice!

I've never taken my dog there, but I don't tip our groomer (Puppy Tub) because it's already so **** expensive! I go to Great Clips for a $12 hair cut for myself. :surrender:

I took my 2 small pups there last year! Never again, while they did a good job, the bill was close to $100....I almost died! I didn't leave a tip, no way! I agree with Jenni1500...they charge too much! I can't justify, when I pay less than $10.00 for my haircut ( I always have a coupon at Great Clips)

Ok guys - is the person at Great Clips cutting ALL of your hair????? Be serious! If you tip to get your hair cut why wouldn't you tip the person who is dealing with your dog's entire body, including private areas. Not too mention you are leaving your dog in their care while they are being groomed. I think 20% is realistic. If it is too expensive than do it yourself!

Nope, sorry...........a doggy shampoo and clip should not cost $50+ bucks but in this day and age they know that pet owners will spend big bucks on our pets.

I don't own a dog, so this may be a stupid questions, but why can't you cut the dog's hair yourself? Like get a set or Wahl clippers and go for it. Unless you are showing the dog, just clip it. I clip my son's hair and have for 10 years. It isn't hard.

For us, we have a long haired dog..we washed her hair once and then she air dried and she stunk! Plus they blow out the shedding hair and do a much better job basically and for a long haired dog it is a bit of work that I would rather pay for, but of course it would be on the short list to be cut if we were cutting dollars

Well I take my dogs to the dog spa- they get a cut, brush, de frurring or whatever, a massage, teeth brushed, nails clipped, earls cleaned and whatever else and there is no way I give a tip more than they add into the bill. I think there is 15 percent added. I color my hair at home and trim my own bangs. Hell I even do my own eyeborws with a razor, lol.

They have equipment that I don't plus I don't have the traning for her long hair type.

Yeah you can't just get any clippers. I don't have a place to clean her (she would clog my drains), I don't know how to clip her butt area.

I have been taking my 2 dogs there since we brought them home and they see the same groomer every time. I do tip her because she does a fantastic job and is always accommodating w/ appt. times and our crazy schedule! However, I agree the services are pricy and they should have more promotions or even a punch card ( like buy 10 get the 11th free ). I mention this every time I fill out their survey online!

Thanks for all the opinions everyone! Since my dog is a lab mix it wasn't as much as some paid on here. Normally we wash her ourselves but she is such a stinker about bath time and she was REALLY dirty and w/DH's ruptured disc in his back he could just NOT handle her and I can't either since she really fights us at bath time...yet take her to a lake and let her off the leash and she'll jump right in. Of course the lake is really dirty. So it worked out well and we didn't leave a tip plus they cut her nails and cleaned her ears...and it saved DH's back! Now she looks and smells purdy! :-)

Anyone know of a good groomer in the Skokie, Wilmette, Evanston area that is reasonably priced. I've been going to DesPlaines and its 36.00 and I do tip. I used to go to Petsmart since it was closer and I paid 52.00 and I tipped them too. Looking for some place closer to home.

IMO this is what you are tipping for!!!
And if even if you did know how would you really want to?
