I wanted to get the carpets cleaned this weekend at the new house and at the apartment before turning the keys in. I saw a Bissell Pro Heat 2X on sale for $199 at Target with at $20 GC w/ purchase and thought it may just be better to buy one instead of rent a rug doctor if I plan on using it (I do with a puking baby on the way and a puking kitty already in the house).

Does anyone own one or have recommendations on what to get?

I recommend the one that has the water attatched so you don't have to use a cord and hook it up to your sink--gives you a little more mobility
My SIL has one--she lets us borrow--and it looks like a regular vacuum cleaner--so much easier than the old ones we have which are cylinder shaped and hook up to our faucet
I would also just do a google check on carpet cleaners to see how they work--I can't remember the type my SIL got--but she upgraded from the BISSEL--I think to another Bissell--she wanted one that picks up more dog hair--but she still kept with the type that looks like an upright vacuum cleaner--you have to empty the case more--but worth it-not to be hooked up to the faucet
Hope this makes sense and helps

I got one a few years ago at Costco - I used it TWICE. I found it to be a PITA to move furniture, vacuum, fill, wait for it to heat, steam/shampoo, then go over again to rinse, empty the container then REPEAT... It took me HOURS. and it is HEAVY.

I look jealously at my neighbors who hire Steammaster.

I have a Hoover carpet cleaner and I love it. Well, I should say I have it and its broken :( It makes me sad that its broken :( we have had it for almost 5 years and its never done us wrong. Until it broke.

Not anymore.... I loved mine. FIL broke it... We then pulled out the carpet and put in flooring. This was a few moons ago though... We put flooring in when I got preggers with DS (4). So I'm not up to speed of what is out there.

I would say that if you are gonna invest... Get a good one.

I HAD one a little over a week ago, this exact one. I think we paid $300 for it when we got it 4 years ago. I loved it!

Mr. got a moving truck that was too small, and there was no room for it on board. So the cute college boys who helped us load up the moving truck took it home with them, apparently there are some beer pong related puking incidents in their apartment that it can help them with...LOL!

I really liked the Bissell machine, used it for baby and doggie clean ups. For cleaning liquid, I used diluted Charlie's Soap all purpose cleaner with some Biokleen Bac-Out Stain & Odor when it was a urine-related issue.

Wait. Mines not a steam cleaner, its a carpet shampooer. My bad.
That's what I meant....the one at Target looks like:

Funny you should ask. I am Carpet cleaning the past few days. To day doing area rugs. Its a Hoover Steamvac carpet cleaner. Works pretty good.

I have the Bissell Pro Heat (not 2) that I got at Target for $149 with the Target giftcard offer and then also had a mail-in rebate. Hubby used it in the dinning room that was badly stained as it's a high traffic area and it came out great. We used the regular steam cleaner solution and just spot brushed with a toothbrush dipped in cleaner the darker stains. Everything came out.

I figured if we had a steam cleaner we would clean the carpets more often and they would look better and in the end it would be cheaper and easier than renting a machine or having people come in the house.

Thanks for all the input. Based on that and the reviews online I'm going to go ahead and get it tomorrow. Yay!
