I am looking for a new bathroom vanity and sink as well as some other home type things...has anyone been to the Home owner bargain outlet? They have a few locations in the Chicagoland area...just wondering what you think...or is Menard's cheaper or about the same regarding quality/price. TIA.

HOBO is kind of like Big Lots. Lots of difference in stuff, some of it good, some not. Stuff differs widely from store-to-store.

We bought all the ceramic tile we put in our house there in 2005. It was about 1/4 the price of tile from HD or Menards.

Yes, it's hit or miss, most of the stuff I saw at the Addison store was garbage. Its a hot mess in there too if you don't mind looking and looking for stuff. Oh and when we went to look for rugs I found them very pricey.

I would check to make sure the one near you is still open. They recently closed one down near my work. They are turning into a goodwill.

I agree. We bought some glass tile for the kitchen and new bathroom from them just before Christmas - it was very cheap compared to Tile Outlet, Home Depot and the like, and also a lot nicer (imo) that the stuff you usually find at the big box stores. Plus we could also return some of the tile without any problems (no returns allowed at the Tile Outlet, for comparison). We also got a nice modern glass vanity for the bathroom downstairs - it was $199 for vanity+glass bowl+faucet, which is a good price (found a similar vanity on Craigslist for over $400!).

Just like Kathy has said, you'll find a mix of good stuff and bad stuff. We went there last Friday to get some chairs for the kitchen. They were $50 each, so a good price for the kind of chairs we're looking for, but the quality was poor so we left empty-handed.

Prices are good - on a par with Menards and even lower if on sale. Overall I'm pleased with what we bought from them so far, but I think they're pretty much hit or miss.

If you don't need it right away, you can always check to see if you have a local Restore, I know they are building one in Woodstock. Sometimes they have new stuff, a lot of stuff is recycled from other homes. I have seen some nice stuff there, but it is hit or miss. I love it because your purchases go to help Habitat for Humanity.

We love HOBO! Got my black bamboo wood floors from there. Way below retail... Got our range hood there... patio furniture... that's where I get my bath tiles for classroom craft projects...
We've had lots of luck there. We shop at the one in Joliet. I wouldn't compare it to Big Lots because I feel like Big Lots is dumpy

Yes, this is hit or miss. They are generally less expensive than Menards, HD, and Lowe's but that's if you can find what you're looking for. For example I went looking for spray paint (from their advertisement) and they only had one color (can't remember what but it was really a very odd one at that).

I spend a lot of time at our Restore. We get some great stuff sometimes. Also, a hit or miss type store, but I know when the truck comes in :)

I used to go to HOBO's more, but it has become pricey IMO. Again, it's hit or miss. Good deals can be found
